New shops and businesses open across Tenterden

30 April 2026

Tenterden's High Street and surrounding streets have welcomed a fresh wave of new businesses through 2026, adding to the town's already varied mix of independent shops and services.

Among the new arrivals is Premier Travel, which officially opened at 8 East Cross at the end of April. The travel agency adds a high-street booking option for residents planning trips and holidays — a reminder that face-to-face service still has its place alongside online booking.

The town's beauty offering also grew, with Hair & Beauty by Mehmet & Helen opening at 17a High Street at the end of March. New salons and beauty businesses have become an increasingly common sight in Tenterden, reflecting steady local demand for these services.

On the professional side, Burfields House Wealth Management opened at 67 High Street earlier in the year, broadening the range of financial and professional services available in the town without the need to travel further afield.

Adding further variety, a new business called Ekushey opened at 21 West Cross at the end of April, joining the cluster of independent traders that give the West Cross end of town its own distinct character.

Taken together, these openings paint an encouraging picture of a town centre that continues to attract investment. While high streets across the country face well-documented challenges, Tenterden has seen a healthy balance of new arrivals alongside the occasional closure — a sign of a market town that remains a genuine destination for shopping, services and a day out.

For residents, each new opening means more choice closer to home; for the town, a busy, fully-occupied High Street helps sustain the footfall that local independents rely on. With more changes likely as the year goes on, Tenterden's retail scene shows no sign of standing still.
