Poundstretcher opens in Tenterden High Street
3 July 2026
Tenterden has a new addition to its High Street, with discount retailer Poundstretcher opening in the town for the first time on Friday 3 July 2026.
The store has moved into the prominent unit at 9–11 High Street, opposite TG Jones, which had stood empty since The Original Factory Shop closed earlier in the year. Its arrival brings a sizeable retail space back into use in the heart of the town and is expected to create up to a dozen new local jobs.
Shoppers can expect the familiar Poundstretcher range under one roof, including clothing, food and drink, household essentials, health and beauty products, gardening supplies and pet care — the kind of everyday-value shopping that previously meant a trip out of town for many residents.
The opening was marked with a small celebration, with the Mayor of Tenterden on hand to welcome the store to the community and a goody bag handed to the first hundred customers through the door.
The new opening is a welcome boost for Tenterden's High Street, which has seen a steady mix of change over the past year as independent shops and national names alike move in and out. Filling a large, well-positioned unit so soon after it became vacant is encouraging for a town that prides itself on a busy, varied shopping street.
For local residents, the practical benefit is simple: a wider choice of affordable everyday goods within walking distance, without needing to drive to a larger town or retail park. For the High Street as a whole, an occupied and busy unit helps keep footfall flowing to the independent traders, cafés and services that give Tenterden its character.
Poundstretcher joins a long-established line-up of shops along the tree-lined High Street, and its opening adds to a run of new arrivals in the town through 2026.
